Carefree Caracas Approved Guides
If you want to enlist the help of a private guide during your visit to Caracas, you could search for them on the internet but how can you tell which ones are reliable, friendly and honest, charge fair prices, know Caracas well and speak good English?
The answer is simple: contact one of our Carefree Caracas approved guides. As part of our project to encourage tourists to come and enjoy Caracas, we are creating a pioneering concept that is a "Virtual Team" of approved guides who speak good English and meet our demanding conditions.
Our Approved Guide Criteria
Every member of this team meets the following criteria:
(1) each guide is known personally to us, which means that at least two native English speakers from the Carefree Caracas team have met them on several occasions, talked to them in English to assess their English-language skills, their personality and their knowledge of Caracas, and then checked their personal references.
(2) each guide has agreed to work in accordance with the Carefree Caracas Code of Conduct.
None of our approved guides are employed as guides by Carefree Caracas. They do not pay us to advertise their services on our website and they do not pay us any commission from their earnings. We are giving them space on our website because they are friendly, knowledgeable local people that we are confident can help you get more from your stay in Caracas.
Standard Services and Charges
The services offered by our approved guides include all the most frequently requested standard services such as meeting you at the airport or taking you on trips to nearby places such as Choroní, Colonia Tovar or the Morrocoy National Park and all guides charge the same rate for these standard services. We check with websites, hotels and private guide companies to ensure that the rates charged by our approved guides are competitive. The charges for standard services are for the guide's time and costs so the price is the same for a single visitor or a group of up to three. For parties of four or more, prices will vary because it will usually be necessary to hire a larger vehicle. The standard services are:
1. Meeting visitors at the airport: US$80 (daytime), US$90 (night service)
2. Delivering visitors to the airport: US$90 (daytime), US$100 (night service).
The rate is higher because instead of just dropping you off at the terminal, the guide will accompany you into the airport and stay with you until your luggage has been checked in, your departure tax paid and you have gone through to the boarding area.
3. Whole day tour of Caracas: US$300.
This is a personalized tour to suit your interests. e.g. exploring the historic centre, taking the cable car to the top of the mountain, visiting El Hatillo, the UCV, etc.
4. Accompanying visitors to late-night venues: US$200
These include restaurants in Yellow zones such as La Candelaria and jazz, salsa or other nightclubs.
5. Whole day excursions to nearby towns and places: US$300-500
Examples include: Colonia Tovar ($300), Maracay ($300), Choroní ($350), Valencia ($400) and the Morrocoy National Park ($500). These prices cover the guide's time and transportation costs so the price is the same whether the excursion is for one, two or three visitors but they do not include optional costs such as meals.
If you are interested in any other tours or excursions, or if your group contains more than three people, you can negotiate a customised package with any of our approved guides.
Note that unless it is specifically agreed otherwise, you pay the guide in cash in US dollars.
If you want to contact any of our approved guides by telephone, please remember that Caracas is 4.5 hours behind GMT so if its 10:00am in London it would be impolite to call anyone in Caracas!
